CVs - Curriculum Vitae

Rule one: There are no rules.. in the end you have to do what you have to do to get the job you want, and things which help differentiate you are always a plus. But bear in mind who is reviewing your CV from the hiring manager, to HR, to all the other colleagues who shouldn't really see your cv.. but do..

Tips/"Strong Suggestions"

  • Use Word and save it in standard format
  • Clear standard font
  • Don't password protect it
  • Don't use any graphics / pictures
  • 2 pages max - think who's reading it.
  • Spread things out and make what's important clear to see
  • Leave breadcrumbs that allow for openings in your interview
  • Make clear your USPs
  • State facts not "dreams"
  • Tailor a CV for each role

Don't - ie Don't ie DO NOT

  • LIE - you will be caught out..
  • Assume experts are reading.. not idiots.

Remember:

  • This is your first piece of work for the company
  • Treat it is if you were receivnig it
  • What would you think
  • Keep a copy .. and review before interviews.

Unfortunately often it's a case of being the best grey man.. ie you want everything to be "right" to get you in the door, and then the CV doesn't matter - other than for the screening.. when.. everything will be checked.. DO NOT LIE!!
